For the first time in its history well over two hundred of St .Lucia’s underprivileged children will be part of the opening ceremony of the St. Lucia Football Association sanctioned Blackheart/Kashif and Shanghai knockout football tournament scheduled to kick off today Saturday 12th June 2010 at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Interestingly, the idea was that of the Executive Director of the St. Lucia Social Development Fund Joachim Henry that the children be outfitted by the SSDF. Their transportation costs to and from the ground will be paid by the SSDF and they will also be catered for compliments of the SSDF.
St.Lucia’s pride and joy will carry a message of peace and also be used to get the message across that sport is the way out, and not crime. The children will also accompany their teams on the days that they are playing in the tournament and similar arrangements to the opening ceremony will be made for them on that day.
